Teens Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do

The program is targeted primarily to parents/guardians/caretakers of teens but is also inclusive of teens, other family members, and anyone who works with or cares about teens. Parents, guardians, foster parents, family members, teens, community members, mentors, professionals, students, people who “sponsor” teens in a 12 Step program, and anyone interested in attending for any reason are all welcome. Parents and teens are welcome to attend individually or together.

How much does it cost?

It is free and open to anyone interested.

Is registration required?

No registration is required for the programs in Ypsilanti – you can just come. The program in Brighton requests (but does not require) pre-registration. We would appreciate it if you would let us know in advance if you plan to attend with a group of eight or more.

Is it the same each month? Can I come to just one part?

The same part 1 and part 2 workshops are repeated each month. You may attend either part or both parts, as often as you like. The information presented in part 1 will help you understand the information presented in part 2, so we encourage attendance at part 1 first, but it is not required. If it works out best for you to attend part 2 first or to only attend one part, you are welcome to do so.

Can documentation of attendance be provided? Is C.E. credit available?

A certificate of attendance is provided upon request. This can document attendance for school, court, C.E. or other purposes. Some disciplines accept this workshop for C.E. credit, but you will have to check with the discipline you are associated with. Many schools have approved this program for staff education hours.

What else should I know about the series?

Free literature on adolescent alcohol/other drug issues is also available.

How can I get there?

Please click here for maps and directions. Ample free parking is available. It is most direct to enter the Education Center through the front door of the “5305” building, at 5305 Elliott Drive. There will be signs placed in the Education Center to direct people to the location.

Who sponsors this program?

The “Teens Using Drugs workshop series is co-sponsored by Dawn Farm, the Livingston/Washtenaw Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Act Consortium, and Saint Joseph Mercy Health System Mission Services. The series is supported with a grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation, courtesy of the Ypsilanti (Michigan) Wal-Mart store.

Will the program be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather?

We rarely cancel a program but it has happened on occasion. If you want to confirm that a workshop will be held, you are welcome to contact us. If we cancel a workshop, we will also post the cancellation on this web site.
